What if you could attend 31 churches in your city on one Sunday morning? The pop cultural news site; The Stranger, in Seattle, did just that. They sent 31 ‘journalists’ out on a Sunday to 31 different houses of worship, mostly Christian in nature but a few from other faiths. The article is from 2007 and seems to have found a new life thanks to it’s shelf life and social media.
The reports aren’t what you would call objective and are meant mostly to make a mockery of religion and faith writ large, but none the less there is still truth to be had.
A few notable descriptions:
“If you’re thinking of attending a church, I beg you not to attend the CFC—find one that understands humility and grace and charity. I’m an atheist, but the CFC brings Bible imagery to my mind. Standing in all the gaudy sound and tacky fury, all I can think of is the perverted temple that Jesus Christ ripped to pieces…”
